Postcard from Europe! (Part Two: May 25th – June 1st)
Belgium… You gave me life.
Again.
A place where I have shed blood, sweat, and tears. A place where my career started, where it all began… A place that was able to revive my tired soul with a heart-warming breath like a cool summer night’s breeze -
Umm… Ok this is getting a bit too dramatic, but my point is that without the crucial 48 hours of rest in the beautiful home of my second family (as I like to call them) in Brussels, I probably would have withered away like an autumn leaf, left to be helplessly blown across the plains of sorro- (Alright. I’m stopping. You get it, Brussels was great. I couldn’t have done without it – blah blah blah)
I’m not exactly sure why it was so tiring this time. I’ve done plenty of concerts in short periods of time before, but why was this time so difficult!? I felt like there were dementors in the audience for crying out loud! Dementors! Coming to my concert! I mean, enough with all the supposed pesticides, poisonous plastics, and radiation in the air.
Having your soul feel like it would rather spend some time anywhere else but inside your body, is definitely not healthy. In fact I was so bothered by it that I decided to time travel to the distant (or not so distant – just a mere 2 weeks away when this was all over) future to ask the older and wiser me what he thought the reason might have been. He told me that I should practice less on a last minute basis in general, and actually try playing violin you know – on a more consistent basis? Perhaps everyday?
The younger me thought he was rather presumptuous to think he knew so much (he was after all, only a few weeks older) yet needing to come away with something after spending 2 weeks hard at work building the damn time machine, decided to take only the first part of the advice: “I should practice less – ” (what? I’m sorry I can’t hear you – I’m too busy thinking about warm summer breezes and helpless autumn leaves)

Yep,I really love living in the European countries.I hope I can go to some European countries in one day.Just relax before the concerts,I’m sure that you’ll become more & more successful because you are a brilliant musician
with a musical profoundity.
I really appreciate your talent, really….
Hi Ray
of course you get tired. You are the Cadel Evans of Australian violin playing. You have the same daily stresses in your Tour de Monde as a Tour de France.
Pace yourself and expect the same physical and mental exhaustion we see on the face of cycling supermen at the end of a stage.
Expect the exhaustion and plan for it.
Really appreciate your success and love your playing.
My dear friend,
I went to your concert in 2009 in Chaleroi in Belgium. At that moment, you were going on the tours which was organized by the Concours de la reine Elisabeth. I was touched with the music you played. Hope next time you come to Belgium, you will give me a note. So I can invite some of my friends to listen to your music. Take care.
Sincerely.
